Our Kennel

Who doesn’t love puppies?! Puppy breath, roly poly puppy skin, huge puppy paws, and all that cuddly, wonderful puppy energy. What’s not to like? As cute as puppies are, though, we’re interested in much more than just producing puppies. Our breeding goals here at Amico Peloso Spinoni are fourfold:

  1. produce pups which conform to the breed standard,
  2. do our part to cull out undesireable traits — such as cerebellar ataxia — from the genetic pool,
  3. generally improve the bloodlines while respecting the breed’s hunting history, and
  4. plan our breedings with an eye toward building strong and healthy future generations well beyond the current litter.

If you’re just staring your journey into the world of Spinoni, check out the breed section for their history, standard, and much more. Of special interest to you might be the Not Right for You page, because, adorable as they all are, the Spinone is not the breed for everyone.

If you have questions

AKC Title abbreviations, what do they all mean? Check out the AKC listing of all their official titles to find out more about any given abbreviation.

There are a lot of American Kennel Club (AKC)-sanctioned sports and events in which your Spinone could participate provided they meet all other eligibility requirements:

  • Conformation (Show) - conformation shows, matches, handler series, puppy of achievement, and beginner puppy.
  • Companion Sports - agility, obedience, rally, and tracking.
  • Performance Sports - pointing tests and trials, retrieving tests, and scent work trials.
  • Sports for Juniors - pretty much: anything an adult human can do in AKC, juniors can do too.
  • Family Dog Program - CGC, S.T.A.R. Puppy, Trick Dog, Therapy Dog, FIT Dog, and Temperament.
  • Title Recognition Program - AKC recognizes some non-AKC titles, such as Disc Dog, Diving Dog, Flyball, SAR, and various titles earned through breed parent clubs.

The Spinone is also an eligible breed for participating in the North American Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) tests, once registered with that organization. Check out their websites for much more information!

Tests? Trials? What is the difference? Though it may vary -- so check the fine print of the rules and regs of the specific sport -- generally-speaking tests judge the entrant against a standard, not the other entrants, whereas in trials the entrants/results are additionally compared against one another with a winner chosen.
